Q Eng. 3060J Prof. Ingram Paper #3 Assignment Rough Draft Due Tuesday July 12th by 5 pm. Final Draft Due Tuesday July 19th, by 5 pm. Text: Measure for Measure Topic: Write a 1,000-word essay arguing about any aspect of Isabella’s behavior or thought process in Measure for Measure. You may narrow the topic as you see fit, but this question will get you started. Remember to include all five parts of argument and a problem statement as we practiced in papers #1 and #2. You will also be required to use at least 3 secondary sources in this paper, meaning articles, essays, or books on Measure for Measure, in support of your argument. Our course text, Measure for Measure: Texts and Contexts, provides essays and information you can use for this paper. Writing Goals: As with previous papers, your paper will be graded on its inclusion of the Five Parts of Argument, and the introductory paragraph will be graded on its Problem Statement: together those two elements will count as approximately 1/5 of your overall paper grade. Though you will be completing a 1,000-wd essay, the grading for this paper will be based mostly upon information flow from sentence to sentence in all your body paragraphs. In terms of our writing techniques, this means writing your sentences according to the principles of “old to new” and “short to long” corresponding with bundles of information you provide the reader in each sentence. In other words, use short, familiar subjects to locate the reader in familiar territory from the start of your sentences, then introduce longer, new information at the latter end of sentence. You will workshop a part of the rough draft, and I will complete my grade and notes on your rough draft by Friday July 15th. The Final Draft will be due Tuesday July 19th, at 5 pm. Style: Use MLA style and citation form as directed on our course link.

Isabella is the main character in Shakespeare's comedy Measure for Measure. A model of the heroine in the play, bestowed on her earlier due to her Christian nature, sharply contrasts with her true nature at the end of the play (Sheriko, 66). She starts by first wanting to become a nun. She is widely critical regarding issues about sex, gender, and immorality. She is chaste and virtuous. Isabella is faced with a difficult decision when she has to defend her brother, who has been sentenced to death due to fornication (Sheriko, 74). Despite her nature as a chaste spiritual woman, she has to defend her brother due to her devotion to sisterly love.
